1.     原V【原形動詞】字尾是無聲子音[ p, s, f, k, S, 7]+ed，ed唸〔t〕

如：jump→jumped [pt],  fix→fixed [kst],  bluff→bluffed [ft] ,

    picnic→picnicked [kt],  wash→washed [S t],  watch→watched [7t]

2.     原V【原形動詞】字尾是其他有聲子音或任何母音時＋ed，ed唸〔d〕

如：open→opened [nd],  smell→smelled [ld],  roar→roared [rd],

    comb→combed [md] , chew→chewed [ud],  bother→bothered[ûd]

3.     原V【原形動詞】字尾是t或d時＋ed，ed唸〔Id〕

如：want→wanted [tId],  start→started [tId],  lift→lifted [tId]

need→needed [dId],  blend→blended [dId],  mind→minded[dId]

4.     原V【原形動詞】字尾有e＋d唸〔t/ d/ Id〕

5.     如：type→typed [pt], bake→baked〔kt〕, love→loved [vd], smile→smiled〔ld〕,

close→closed[zd],  hate→hated[tId],  decide→decided[d Id]

6.     原V【原形動詞】字尾是短母音帶子音時，延長子音＋ed， ed唸〔t/ d/ Id〕

如：stop→stopped〔pt〕, jog→jogged〔gd〕, control→controlled〔ld〕

    pat→patted〔tId〕, kid→kidded〔dId〕, nod→nodded〔dId〕

7.     Y在字尾，前面是母音時，直接＋ed， ed唸〔d〕  

如：play→played〔d〕,  enjoy→enjoyed [d],  monkey→monkeyed [d]

8.     Y在字尾，前面是子音時，去y ＋ied，ed唸〔d〕 

 如：study→studied〔d〕,  fry→fried [d],  marry→married [d]
